Last month, I spent the weekend of the 17th in College Station with the family at Parent's weekend. I was there to see Will take over as the new commanding officer of Parson's Mounted Cavalry. Since his sophomore year, he has been an active part of this group on campus and was selected to serve as their first sergeant this past year. Next year he'll be in charge of the group and it is quite an honor. He received his saber from Mrs. Parson's, whose husband was instrumental in bringing the Cavalry back to campus in the seventies while he was Corps Commandant.
The boys in his outfit, also honored their parents at the annual rose (carnation) pinning ceremony. After the C-1 ceremony, we all headed out to a park in Bryan for some Texas BBQ. There, we met up with an old family friend who's currently dating an old fish camp buddy of mine- what a small world!!On Saturday night, I went over to Vic and Sarah's house to see all the fun new stuff they've done to their house. It's such an inviting place and I was so excited to see them and Sarah's mom, who is just too precious! We had a great time catching up- I miss those two!
On Sunday, we watched the Ross Volunteer's perform in Kyle Field. This was extra special because my dad was also an RV when he was in school. One of my best friends from home, Charlie, was also an RV. This picture was during the 3rd platoon performance- my cousin Jane got the best photos of their rifle toss. That's Will with his right hand up and the gun sailing over the other cadet's head.
Will did a great job and he looked very handsome in his whites! After the RV practice, Jami and I went back to the dorms with Will to take some photos and watch him and his buddies harass the fish.
Right after their march in, I had to leave for the airport. I had a short flight from College Station to Houston and then back to DC. It's never easy to leave my family and friends after a weekend like this, but I am truly thankful for the time spent with them- even if it's just a short trip!My brother is really one of a kind. I am really proud of him and all his accomplishments!
Way to go Will!! I am so proud to know all of the Echols family!
