My country 'tis of thee...

I have been traveling for work and family stuff for almost a month now, and I am just now getting back in the swing of things...

I was in DC for the 4th of July, one of my favorite times to be in the city! Even though I love spending the 4th in Texas with my family on the lake, there's really no better place to be than in our nation's capital!

On the 3rd, some of my friends and I took a trip to the wineries in central, VA for a little daytrip out of the city! We went to Horton's winery, one of my absolute favorites. It's housed in this old rock barn nestled in the VA rolling hills... and they make these wonderful fruit wines on top of all the other "regular" wines they offer.

The 4th was spent at the Air Force memorial with friends watching the fireworks. I have found that the crowd there consists of more locals and less tourists... sounds great to me! We hung out on our blankets with a picnic as we people watched and waited for the fun to begin...

As the show got started, the AF band played the Overture of 1812 in the background-- really neat way to watch fireworks! Here are a few shots I took of the fabulous show... one of the best ways to spend our tax dollars (one of the only good ways they get spent in my opinion!)

Sunday was a relaxing day with my friends as we made care packages for the troops, ate lots of yummy BBQ, and lit sparklers! Hope you and your families had a wonderful Independence day as well!!
